This paper deals with the short story genre in Caribbean/Trinidadian Literature. Il explores the main themes in Lawrence Scott's Leaving by plane swimming back underwater, as well as the recurrent writing strategies in the selected short stories: orality and narrative voice techniques. Finally, the paper addresses the possibility that translation will create an “illusion” of the source text, even though it refers to a different culture.
